Q:      Where does the ship anchor at the port of Belize?

A:       Due to the shallow nature of Belize City’s harbor, passengers take a 30-minute shuttle from the ship to the Belize Tourism Village docks.  The Tourism Village is the meeting point for all excursions and offers a variety of bars and restaurants, as well as local arts and crafts.

Q:      How long are the ships at port in Belize?

A:       Most ships arrive between 6AM and 8AM and depart between 4PM and 6PM.  This allows enough time to take an excursion and return in time to shop for locally-crafted souvenirs or get a bite to eat before returning to the ship.

Q:      What is the best thing to do in Belize?

A:       Belize is a stunning, diverse country full of natural beauty.  This is best seen through swimming/snorkeling in its calm and clear waters, visiting the extraordinary Mayan ruins deep in the jungle, or participating in eco-tours such as cave-tubing, rafting, or zip-lining.

Q:      Do I need to book a tour in advance?

A:       Advance bookings are essential, as our Belize tours are in very high demand and tend to sell out quickly.

Q:      Is Belize safe?

A:       The people of Belize are warm, friendly, and welcoming and take great pride in their country.  The spirit of hospitality is widespread, and Belizeans genuinely desire you to experience the very best the county has to offer.  As with any city, vigilance is appropriate when visiting a City on your own, which is one of the reasons guided tours are recommended.

Q:      What language is spoken in Belize?

A:       Belize is the only country in Central America to have English as its official language.  You may hear it spoken with a colorful accent attributed to its British, Mayan, and African influences.

Q:      Can I spend US currency in Belize?

A:       While Belize has its own Belize dollar, US dollars are widely accepted throughout, with one US dollar equaling 2 Belize dollars.  ATMs are conveniently available in the Tourism Village.  It is generally a good idea to have bills of smaller denominations.
