Belize Zoo
and Old Belize Excursion
Visit the Belize Zoo and Old Belize
Museum and Beach Club for a taste of Belize's natural wildlife
and history. The educative Tour will first
take you to the famous Belize Zoo where you can come in close
contact with some of Belize rarest
Animals which are found as in surroundings as close to their
natural habitat as possible.
Some say the Belize Zoo was built
backwards as compared to a "normal
Zoo", where Human guests feel as they are the ones on
display and not the other way around. Build on a
subtropical plateau the Zoo offers a chance to admire the
wildlife as one would only be able to seem it in Belizean
Postcards. A couple of feet
away from the gravel paths carved in the jungle visitors feel as
they are behind the cage and the animals roam free, coming by to
admire Humans in order to take a peek at our strange behavior.
The Belize Zoo came about in the early
1980s due to a documentary filmed in Belize at that time.
Following the filming most of the animals featured in the
 documentary
became partly tamed and the keeper at that time was able to open
the present zoo knowing that the tamed animals would have found
it very difficult to be re-introduced back in the wild.
The Belize Zoo consists of 29 Acres
displaying Belizean Wildlife in it's natural surroundings.
The approximately 60 minute tour of the Zoo you will see over
125 Native Animals, including Jaguars, Ocelots, Peccaries,
Storks, Howler Monkeys (babies too!) Tapirs, crocodiles and
more!
From the Belize Zoo you will travel to
the Old Belize Museum and Beach Club, this new development has
recently been open to introduce visitors to the natural History
of Belize. The series of time travel rooms will take you
form representations of the Belize Rainforest, to Maya Culture,
through the first Belizean Settlement time line all the way to
the present day.
The Old Belize Tour is a short but
fascinating discovery, which ends in the Old Belize Restaurant
and bar area or the Horseshoe Beach. Lunch is not included
in the tour costs but can be enjoyed a la carte giving you time
for either lunch or to catch a few rays on the man made
Cucumber Beach found on property. The Beach offers beach
chairs canoes, rafts and jumping water trampoline and are
available as part of your Old Belize Tour.
This excursion is the perfect answer
for young children and families alike who would like to see some
of the rarest animals on our Planet.
